Hi there! Can anyone recommend the best way to embed a PDF slide presentation in an Atlassian page? Not a thumbnail to download, but actually embedding the PDF, so that you can run through all its pages in order, like, you know, a slide presentation.
Oh, and right now I'm using the ‘PDF’ Macro, but this documentation says that it's going away — and also, it doesn't include parameters to adjust the size and shape, which is really what I'm searching for.
Thanks,
Eric
Hi Eric,
If you followed the announcement on the View File Macro reaching end of life, there's actually a link that explains how to present PDF within the page itself.
You can find the documentation for this here - https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/display-files-and-images-245827130.html
You have to click on the PDF to start the preview mode as it should work like a presentation.
Hey Daniel — thanks for responding!
As it happens, I did follow it, and I did try the display files and images route. However, I would rather there was a way to embed the slideshow directly in the page, rather than having to click a link to open it. At any rate, the point was moot, because at 36 slides, my slideshow's apparently too long for the display files and images feature to handle it.
So . . . any other macros out there that can display the PDF in full without downloading or preview mode?

Yeah 36 slides is a bit large. Unfortunately I don't know of any other macros out there that can do it. A quick search of the marketplace mostly has macros for customising PDF exports.
What's your use case for presenting such a large PDF in Confluence?

It's a training presentation — basically a lot of screenshots with captions and arrows and such. It's 36 slides because, you know, there are a lot of steps in the process. Anyway, in exploring our options, we felt like slides would be better than a several-meters-tall article people had to scroll through, and we wanted to still keep it in the same hierarchy as other more standard article documentation, and as a standalone page (as opposed to a list of files).
If preview/download is the only other option, I'll just stick with the soon-to-be-deprecated PDF macro. But thanks for your searching, it's most kind of you to look.

If you're building out a training presentation, I would suggest splitting them out to several pages. It's a lot more work to get it setup, but in the long term it will be more beneficial to have Confluence pages for the training instead of one giant PDF. This would help especially if you have a change in step 5 of 30, rather than uploading the whole PDF again, you could just modify that page or the content of a sub page with full version control.
Take a look at a few examples below that could help you style your training presentation to have a proper flow:
