A file can be added on a page and then linked to it, however this file is not available to link on any other pages even if the pages are children to the initial page.  The file therefore has to be uploaded again if you wish to link to it.

Is there a way around this limitation?

Hi @cwilford,

Confluence allows you to copy files/images from other pages to the page you are currently working on.

In your case, if the file you intend to add in a child page is available in the parent page:

  1. Click 'Insert Files and Images' from the Editor window.
  2. Select the third tab 'Search on other pages'.
  3. Type in the file name you intend to add from any other page. And select either 'All Spaces' or 'the space you are currently working in' (in your case, parent page and current space) .
  4. Click 'Search'.

You should be able to view the file and insert it in your current page.

Hope this helps!

Thanks

Sireesha

Small point of clarification when you do that it does not actually copy the attachment to your page. It is still only linking to the original.
