Hello everyone! I have a question about folders and pages at Confluence. For instance; I have 3 different folders.
For first folder: Folder Name: Analysis
Sub Folder Name: Modules
Sub Page Name: Auctions
The question is: I gave folder permission for Analysis folder to Product Management Group "just view" Afterwards, when I consider other folders I realized that I have to give permission for other folders and pages again. But I gave permissions for Auctions Page to Product Management Group for "view" and I gaved apermissions also Analysts group for "edit". But I couldnt understand why main folder doesn't affect sub page? For view yes it is affecting. But When I controlled permissions, I saw that for Auctions page Product Management Group can edit. But I had already given "view" permission for Product Management Team. Could you please answer my quastion? Thank you so much!
Welcome to the community!
If you restrict Editing permission for "Analysis" page to Product Management Group, this "Editing" restriction is only given to that page, not sub-pages. So, you need to do the same for "Auctions" page too.
Also, check this ticket: CONFSERVER-5095 Page edit permissions should be inherited by pages, like view permissions are
How do inherited restrictions work?
View restrictions are inherited, which means a restriction applied to one page will cascade down to any child pages. Edit restrictions are not inherited, which means pages need to be restricted individually.
The restrictions dialog will tell you when there are inherited restrictions that might affect who can view your page.
Here's the basics:
If you restrict viewing to a person or group, only they will be able to see that page and all its child pages (unless there are further restrictions on the child pages).
If you restrict editing to a person or group, they'll be able to see and edit that page, plus see its child pages.
Parent pages (higher up in the page hierarchy) can have their own view restrictions that may prevent people from viewing your page.
