Hi, I am new to confluence and am trying to self teach myself basic page set up functionality including options to integrate/embed JIRA boards. My company is using v. 6.15.9. My problem is that when I search for information, I get information for the newest version usually in the Cloud. Many times the information doesn't apply to my version. I can't figure out how to easily "weed" out information for the cloud version of Confluence or version higher than 6.15.9. Can anyone help me?
To answer the bit about generalised documentation, the Atlassian docs are mostly quite good at this.
Take for example https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/insert-the-jira-issues-macro/ - that is, as you say the "latest" doc on the subject and it's for Cloud.
Look to the top right of the body though. You'll see "cloud" highlighted in blue, with "Server \/" next to it in grey. Click on the \/ and you'll see a list of Server versions to select from.
Clicking on those will either take you to the same page, but written for your server version, or it will land you on a search when there's no direct link. The search is not brilliiant, but it will give you a decent list of candidates. Often it returns a good link for the latest version of Confluence, but going there and selecting the right version at the top right solves it.
Hi @Cathy Siler and welcome to the Confluence world. You are at a bit of a tough spot as the first uses of Confluence will cause a bit of consternation as you are seeing here. So... I'll see if I can help you get going.
When I hear of someone wanting to embed something from another source in Confluence, it is true that is often the only way. However, that is usually a mindset from SharePoint or a copy/paste to a document. While you can do that, there are other and prettier ways to do it where the content in Confluence (I do this for reporting at my shop) is merely pulled in from Jira and then Confluence is formatting it.
You can start with working with the Jira Issues Macro and go from there. That macro can then be embedded in several other macros such as Advanced Tables for Confluence or Table Filter and Charts for Confluence. These are a couple of things I do going beyond what the generic Jira Issues Macro can do.
A note; when you go to the link for the Jira Issues Macro, you'll note in the upper right, you can select cloud or a server version to get the pages for the version you live on. That said, the Jira Issues Macro has been pretty much static in... forever.
I hope this helps
