GraphQL error when trying to add a label to a Confluence page

When tring to add an already created label to a Confluence page I get the above error.  The full error text is:

GraphQL error: Exception while fetching data (/addLabels) : io.atlassian.platform.micros.asynchttp.ContextualMicrosHttpAsyncClient$ReadingResponseException: com.fasterxml.jackson.core.JsonParseException: Unexpected character ('X' (code 88)): expected a valid value (JSON String, Number, Array, Object or token 'null', 'true' or 'false') at [Source: UNKNOWN; line: 1, column: 2]

I have closed my browser and tried reloading the page and adding the label but the problem recurs.  

Any advice on how to resolve?

Exact same issue here.  Able to delete a label.  Get error when attempting to add.
