How can I fix this failed import

Stephen Watson June 26, 2023

I'm doing a long overdue migration of an old server and Confluence 5.8.6 to a new server with Confluence 8.3.2.  I'm going via a temporary version 7 install on the new server.

Importing the whole site gave an error:

Import failed. Check your server logs for more information. java.lang.RuntimeException: Could not read fields for table AO_187CCC_SIDEBAR_LINK.

I tried exporting each space individually.  They imported into 7 without error, but re-exporting gave the same error as above.

I should say that the old server recently started reporting unreadable sectors on its disks, so the whole exercise is now urgent. I also cannot rule out data corruption somewhere.

Hey there!

It looks to me that some of the data in one of the database table that is being migrated may be corrupted. I would recommend going back through the logs and looking for any other information as to where the error is occurring. You may be able to fix it by omitting the problematic data from the migration.

An alternative solution that I would recommend looking into would be to upgrade your server instance to version 6.13 or later. You would then be able to leverage the Cloud Migration Assistant which is a great tool for migrations because it is able to find errors before moving the data.

Best,

Scott

I did export each space individually, so I can try transferring just one or two to see if only one of the spaces is causing the problem.

Cloud is not an option - this is a small, isolated network with no Internet connection whatsoever.

Exporting the spaces, importing into version 7 and then exporting the site appears to have worked!

Thanks for your help.
