We have Confluence 6.06 installed locally on Windows. We use Chrome 59.0.3071.115 and IE11 on Windows 7 desktops.
I would like to put a link on a Confluence page that points to an HTML file on our file server.
I notice that there is a similar question in the Confluence help, but it did not work for me. Here is that link:
That page suggests having a link that looks like this: file:///server/share/etc, with three slashes after "file:". If I use two slashes instead of three, that URL will bring up the file in my browser. However, if I put that URL in a link on a Confluence page, the page doesn't come up with I click on the link. If I right click and choose to open the page in another tab, the page that comes up is an "about:" page that is blank.
Please help.

Confluence: How to place a link to a file on a server share in a confluence page?
Try using file://///unc/path/to/folder/file as the link. If you are using IE11 it will open up the file automagically. For Chrome you need a plugin for it to work, some of my users downloaded this one, https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/locallinks/jllpkdkcdjndhggodimiphkghogcpida. Note that this plugin does not work in incognito mode.
