How can I see what role I have in Confluence ?

Iuliana Burgi Jurj October 25, 2017

Hello,

I am a new user with Confluence. Just started today.

We will use it as a wiki within my company so I am getting to know the tool.

I am navigating in the tool but I can not seem to see what role I have.

I would need to know because I should be Administrator, but I have my doubts.

I went into ``My Profile`` sectio and looked in all options, but I do not see it.

Can someone guide me on this ?

@Iuliana Burgi Jurj, if you are a Confluence Administrator there will be a small gear by your avatar (upper right-hand corner).  Clicking on that gear will give you a drop-down with a section entitled Confluence Administration.

Confluence have 3 types of permissions:

Page restrictions - https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/page-restrictions-139414.html

Space permissions - https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/space-permissions-overview-139521.html

Global permissions - https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/global-permissions-overview-138709.html

And you cannot see all your permissions on one page.

Hello Gregor,

Thank you very much for your the information.

I understand the difference between the 3 types of permissions you mention.

But this brings me to another question: What is the difference between an ``administrator`` & a ``site administrator`` ? From what I see in the settings the rights allocated t these permissions are exactly the same.

Thank you for your answer.

A site adminstrator looks after the Cloud site as a whole.  They usually get included as Confluence, Jira, and Bitbucket admins as well, as the role is often "look after the atlassian stack we've got", but you could in theory remove that, so they only have access to maintain users of the site (of course, with that access, they could still make themselves admins)
