How can users recognize that they are in an archived space/site?

Martin Köhler July 20, 2023

We want to give users who visit a space or a site with a message that this space / site is archived. How do we do that for all archived spaces/sites?

@Martin Köhler Here are some free options you may want to try:

  1. Adding <Archived> prefix into your space name
  2. Add your archived message into space's footer/header (Space Settings > Look and Feel > Page layout)
  3. Find a free theming app (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?hosting=cloud&moreFilters=free&product=confluence&query=theme)

Hope it helps!

A lot of my customers change the theme of archived spaces.

You'll still need an app to provide the theme as Atlassian don't distribute any themes with the core product, and there are a lot that do a lot of clever stuff with the theme.  But there are a handful of free themes, or you could code your own.

One of my customers uses a free one that makes a space very red, which works quite well as humans tend to see red as a warning or threat, and tend to distrust stuff written in red, or at least ask an admin why it's all so red!

Another one uses a theme manager app because they have a need for several themes across their spaces.  Their custom themes can include messaging on every page, so they tend to stick "This space is archived and out of date, please see <new space>" on archived spaces.

Hi @Martin Köhler

This is usually achieved via a banner but that kind of filtering just for specific spaces might be tricky and I don't think is available out of the box, not on a standard plan anyway.

Their out of the box banners start at the premium and enterprise level.

An alternative that would work quite well is this:

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1211907/announcer-for-confluence?tab=overview&hosting=cloud

To note, I have no association with this company, just used this add-on in the past and found it to be quite versatile.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Ash

I already was afraid that this would cost money again, but

Thank you
