How do I add a client to a single confluence space?

Alert: I'm new to Confluence. 

I see multiple threads of answers as to what to do. Why is it so complex? I simply want clients to see one space. But every time I try to do so and then I log in as the client, they see multiple spaces. 

Is there a definitive step-by-step guide on how to do this? 

Please advise!
