Hey Christene,

taken from https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Adding+or+Removing+Users+in+Groups:

To add members to a group:

  1. Choose the cog icon, then choose General Configurationunder Confluence Administration
  2. Choose Groups in the left-hand panel.
  3. The 'Groups' screen appears, showing a list of groups. Choose the group to which you want to add users.
  4. The 'Group Members' screen appears, showing the users who belong to the selected group. Choose Add Members.
  5. Type the username(s) of the people you want to add to the group.
    • If you want to add more than one member, separate the usernames with commas.
    • You can also search for and select users by choosing the search icon.
  6. Choose Add to add the member(s) to the group.

If you use the JIRA user directory for Confluence, you'll need to do these changes in the User Directory of JIRA. (Taken from: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Managing+Users#ManagingUsers-Assigningausertoagroup):

To change a user's group membership:

  1. Locate the user in the User browser (see Viewing Users above) and click the Groups link in the Operations column.
This will display two lists; the one on the left shows all Available Groups, and the one on the right shows the Current Groups to which the user currently belongs.
  2. Choose a group(s) and click the Join selected groups or Leave selected groups buttons to add/remove the user from the selected groups.

I hope that helps.

Regards,
Philipp

To add a user to the Confluence-users group go to Confluence Admin>>Groups, choose the group then click the Add Members button. If it is a user from an external directory the ability to add users to local groups will have to be enabled in the User Directory setup.
