The previous Confluence admin (no longer available) created many of the SPACES currently in use on our site. I'd like to re-title the spaces, but I don't know how to do it so that the new title "takes" in both the space index and the original space home, while keeping the current content intact. Can you help?
Hi Pam, if you're looking to change the space key, this is an outstaning feature request we're tracking at https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-2085
There are some proposed workarounds on this page https://confluence.atlassian.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=14286901
Hi Pam,
To update the name of a space you need to be the space administrator, as discussed here:
https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Editing+Space+Details
You can find the current Space Administrators by selecting the space > space tools > overview and checking the 'Space Details' tab. The administrators of the instance will be shown at the bottom of the tab.
If you are not in this group you will need to be added by an existing administrator :)
Cheers,
Paul

Pam, you can achieve that by going to Space Tools > Overview. Then, click Edit Space Details, rename the space and save the changes.
Hope it helps.

Ooops, I was thinking of the space key rather than the space name. The space key cannot be changed once it's set.

I don't think you can rename spaces after they have been created. The best way to do it would be to get the Copy Space plugin and rename the new copied space when you create it. Then delete the old space.
