How do I re-gain access to Confluence after removing Jira as user source?

Yomo G February 1, 2018
After I removed Jira as being the user source, nobody could access our Confluence instance anymore.

I have tried the recovery admin procedure. No luck.

I have tried creating local (admin) users, since we had none. No luck.

I followed all the instructions regarding these 2 options, multiple times.

I still get an error saying the username/passwords do not match.

I checked the logfiles and noticed the USE permissions error.

The USE permissions are there in the database.

As a devops I am stuck right now.

Please help.

Dear @Yomo G,

I have no solution for your serious problem, but probably I can assist.

When setting up Confluence for the first time, there is an admin account created in the internal DB of Confluence. Afaik, you cannot get rid off this account, even when you add Jira as a source of users.

First make a DB backup with the DB tools  and open a connection to the Confluence DB. Shut down Confluence. Go through the structure (hard thing) and locate that internal admin account. Is it active/disabled?

Second search for that User Directory information. There could be two entries found. Changing the priority manually will probably resurrect your instance.

One completely different approach: Setup a completely new Confluence instance. When importing your last XML backup, there is a chance that you get asked which user directory to take.

Let me know if my thoughts were helpful.

So long

Thomas

PS: If nothing else helps - probably the support can help.

Hi @Thomas Deiler,

Thank you reaching out and trying to assist.

I managed to find the problem. The user-mapping was missing in the database for the local user.

I created a new local user and followed the instructions precisely.

These instructions: https://confluence.atlassian.com/conf510/restore-passwords-to-recover-admin-user-rights-829077919.html

This created the correct local admin user and mapping and restored my access to Confluence.

After that I could reconnect Confluence with Jira as the source for my User management and all looks good now!

Thank you.

This question/problem has been solved.

Dear @Yomo G,

was my answer also fine enough to be 'accepted'?

Many Thanks

Thomas

Hi @Thomas Deiler,

Your answer was not really the answer to my problem (the new admin user was already active and I did not need the setup of a new Confluence setup).

I do appreciate your answer.

But for reaching out and your willingness to assist, I have upvoted your answer.

Thanks again,

Yomo
