How does attachment version store files?

Eduard Seifert July 22, 2013

Hi @all,

sorry for rusty english. I've got a question about the attachment versioning mechanism.

How are those file versions stored?

  1. Is it sth. like Dropbox, where the delta of the files is stored? Delta = only the edited part of the document.
  2. or is every version a complete file including the edited delta? E.g. you edit (WebDav) docx (v1), save it (v2), correct typo (v3), correct another typo (v4). What is the recommended worklow to save space? Save files only after a specified time period (e.g. 10 minutes)?

Thanks a lot. Cheers from Germany.

Eddie

Hi Eduard,

Confluence stores each version as a complete file. If you want to save disk space, I would recommend to delete those versions that are not important from the attachments view from the page they're added to.

Cheers

My attachment tools plugin can help with removing versions based on several rules. I have not migrated to confluence 5 yet though so it is presently untested with v5.
