How to automate the export of a space analytics data?

Pierre Martin-Dumont December 4, 2023

Given CONFSERVER-81892, I am looking for a way to export analytics data of my space every month, capturing last month's data somewhere else (a file, a confluence page, or anything else). This would allow me to have those data on a longer-term basis. Is there any way to achieve this using the automation engine? Thanks for your help!

@Pierre Martin-Dumont Welcome to the Atlassian community

You can export content and user analytics from the space's Analytics screen:

  1. Go to your space and select "Analytics" from the left-hand menu
  2. On the tabs, select "Content" or "Users"
  3. Limit what content to include
  4. Select the breadcrumbs (3-dots) icon in the top-right, and select "Export Excel"

This provides details such as last modified, last viewed and user/total views in a specific timeframe.

Thanks @Brant Schroeder for the warm welcome and for your quick answer. I did see that export was possible using the exact steps you listed, thanks for that. What I am looking for is a way to automate those manual steps, using the automation engine. Any ideas? Thanks again!

@Pierre Martin-Dumont sorry I missed the automation portion.  You would have to use the API to get that information in an automated fashion and you would have to build the integration that would provide that.  I believe the app EasyBI would be able to pull that information as well if you want to go the app route.

Hello @Pierre Martin-Dumont

If you're using Confluence Cloud as tagged here, then you're not affected by CONFSERVER-81892 as this concerns only Confluence Server or Data Center hostings.

But if your Confluence runs on server or data center hosting you can try to find out if Atlassian also offers the views and viewers' information in their API.
Alternatively, find out where this information is stored in the database and then extract it using SQL query.

If you're using Confluence Cloud then have a look at their Cloud API here

Kind regards

Mattia
