I am having problems upgrading from Confluence Server 5.8.4 to 6.7 and above

Tim Buecher May 15, 2018

Dear Community,

I'm having a problem upgrading my confluence server instance. Starting at version 5.8.4 I always encounter the following issue:

"Upgrade failed. Please consult the logs for details. You will need to fix these problems, restore your database and confluence home directory to the pre upgrade state. Then retry the upgrade. Upgrade error message: upgrade task

com.atlassian.confluence.upgrade.upgradetask.DropSpaceGroupTablesUpgradeTask@2e08fbf failed during the SCHEMA_UPGRADE phase to: null"

I tried the upgrade Process with 3 different Versions of Confluence 6.X ... and I'm always stuck with this error. I tried this workaround, but I'm not getting the expected response: https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/upgrading-to-confluence-5-9-x-or-5-10-x-fails-with-error-failed-during-the-schema_upgrade-phase-due-to-null-794212749.html

Can you please help me with my request?

Actually to clear this up:

we took a SQL-Dump from a 5.8.4 Confluence Version, but took it with a SQL User with less rights than the „normal“ Confluence SQL User.

Because of that the Dump was way to small and we encountered several strange Errors. Took the Dump again today and everything worked fine :)

That is a very helpful follow-up, Tim. It should help anyone seeing similar errors during an upgrade.

Hi

I would recommend to contact Atlassian support so they can investigate the issue as the given solution is not working.

(PS: remember to take backups of the database if you are making changes manually)
