Is it a best practice to use more than one home page in a space?

Chris Ridgeway May 19, 2014

In many spaces, I've found it somewhat useful to have two pagetrees in a space, with two or three "home pages". However, I haven't found any documentation on the downsides to this, and I did notice an Atlassian rep saying there is only "one home page per space". Will this cause a problem?

It may not be actually setting the other pages to "home pages" but I'm simply dragging and dropping the a few pages on the page tree to be at the same level as the page near the top, rather than underneath it.

Using different page trees will work, but your users may find it a little confusing. You can only have one home space though, there's no logical way to have more than one.

Well, at issue is to create multiple spaces, or several trees under the same space.

For instance, our non-profit has a Communications Operations space.

I have top-level page called Language & Style Manual. It has about 10 pages underneath with details for others across the agency to read when writing memos, for example. Then I have a second top level page called "Operations" which has sub-pages that include "Donor Communications "Public Relations" etc. These are somewhat clearly different topics though related. I could break these out into multiple spaces but it seems a little silly to have a space for 10-15 pages only.

In any case, it seems you're saying it's technically fine, but only one page is truely designated home. I hadn't noticed that: possibly since we're using Refined Wiki custom theme, which may partly obscure that.

Anyway, thanks.

That should not be an issue. You can have pages in the same level of space tree (not child ages of other pages or underneath).

May I know how do you set more than one home page in a space? The main home page of the space is the page that you see first by navigating to a space, this can be changed in Space Details. Other than that you can have may parent pages with child pages.
