Is it possible for a project team to work from a single Word document posted on a Confluence site (v5.5.6) without overwriting each others work?

Team needs to provide feedback to a vendor's product spec and I want to work off a single copy of the document, which is posted to our team Confluence site.

According to this page it should be possible. It says:

"The Office Connector allows you to edit attached office files in their native application (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint or OpenOffice) and save the file right back to the Confluence page. No need to download and re-upload the file."
