Is it possible to control the number of 'previous versions' pages in Confluence?

I want to restrict the content in Confluence and would like to restrict the number of 'old version' pages. Something lilke keepnig only the 10 last versions of a page.

Unfortunately, it looks like it's not built into the product (according to this bug: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-996).

However, you could write some database scripts to remove versions that are X days old, or something like that.
