Is it possible to do a Confluence site export and then selectively import spaces to a new site?

I have 100+ spaces to export, but I don't need everything in our new instance.  Can I do a full export, then, during import, just get what I want out of it?  Also, there is some data in the new instance.  Can I do this without overwriting existing content as long as I name the spaces appropriately?

@John Waterman , You can't selectively import spaces from a site backup. Additionally, a restore will over-write existing data. You would need to export / import each space individually. 

One thing you could do is delete unnecessary space before the site export and then when you import, you'll obviously only have the spaces you want. 

You could also combine multiple spaces into one, export/import and then break the spaces apart. 

Neither of these are quick solutions but can work to get your end result.
