Is it possible to store jira changes in github?

I would like to implement a process for me to be able to develop, test, and release workflow changes to Jira prod.  

Is it possible?  Primarily, I need a way to save jira customizations into code in a GitHub repo and be able to apply that to a running Jira instance. We then need a way to revert that if it goes wrong.
