Is there a plugin for cleaning up strange Confluence formatting?

Phil Pinder September 18, 2014

Quite often we find that <span> tags start appearing in our Confluence pages. The source is stuff that we have entered by hand (not imported).  I believe this happens after a certain amount of editing. The results of this are:

  • Slightly strange-looking headings (that are actually formatted as "Paragraph", list items that have very little space between them.
  • When we export to Word (using the k15t Scroll Office plugin) all hell breaks loose: whole paragraphs become headings, a set of list items becomes a single paragraph, and so on.

The fix is to go into the source editor, and remove all the <span/> tags one by one.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Phil

Good thinking, thanks!

(I would still prefer a plugin that I could launch on all the Confluence pages that go into our user guide before exporting them.)

I used Source Editor for a while but in the end I discovered that it makes a mess with my pages so I stop using it.

You can also highlight the wacko content and clear the formatting.
