Issue with 'show as link' in Confluence

I have linked a file (wsdl) to my Confluence page and uploaded the file. The thumbnail shows correctly, but I'd prefer to show it as a link. However, as soon as I click the 'Show as link' button everything goes haywire:

The link appears briefly, then the systems tells me it cannot preview the file and asks me if I want to download it. 
When I close that pop-up, a text balloon with the different options Go to link - Edit - Unlink - Show as thumbnail appears on top of my document (but they are not usable).

At the same time, my page is no longer in edit mode but the Save button still remains active (although everything gets stuck when I click it). 

Any ideas on what is happening and how to fix it?

Hi Peter, I have the same issue. 

The workaround I found is the following:

• inset link > files > upload document

Obviously, previously uploaded documents already show here.
