Link on Drive I:/

Adam Sagolla November 21, 2023

Hi Team,

we currently went from our server into the cloud. In the Server Version it was possible to make a link to our Company drive (file:///i:/……). Is it also still possible in the cloud Version?

Hi @Adam Sagolla

I was of the opinion that it's not possible/supported in the new editor to link to files on a share like that in the new editor on cloud. Looking at the resolved issue CONFCLOUD-67240 - Link to local files from within Confluence , I might be wrong.

There's a new comment from this year:

Hi everyone,

This is Alex from the Confluence team. Great news – Confluence Cloud now support file links. This means that the link will be persisted when you publish your page. By default, browsers do not support opening these links directly.

Please note: temporarily, upon pasting this link into the editor, make sure you click the Enter key and not Space. Shortly, we will release a fix to ensure the Space key works for insertion.

So, provided the share is available and all browsers involved support the operation, it could work. Just give it a try and let us know. :D

Best, Max

Hi Max, thanks for your answer.

It really works, like in the server mode. --> It works, with "file:///....." and enabling some functions on edge.

But not so good as i imagine. Because you open with this function a folder. And when you open a excel file, the file has to be saved on your drive. And now you have two files. One on the company drive, and one new saved.

Its not possible to open a Excelfile, work on this and save after finishing on the same file.
