Migrate to cloud after a failed upgrade

Huy L. October 5, 2023

Context

1. I received an email regarding security advisory CVE-2023-22515

2. I update the server from 7.19.3 to 8.5.2 to ensure everything is secured

3. After upgrading, the systems said:

License Inconsistency: Confluence support and upgrades for your current license have expired.

You'll need to supply a valid license key. Confluence can't start without this.
If you have a new license, please enter it on this page and restart.

4. Clicking on the link for license, another error happens

Oops - an error has occurred

System Error

Cause

     Unable to find resource '/template/simple/textarea.vm'

Question

I check back the options provided by Atlassian and deciced to move to Cloud, but I can't get into existing server version to use Migration Tool app.

Hi,

we had a similar issue (regarding the textarea.vm error) which we managed to solve by creating the simple template as a copy of the aui template. See my answer here for more info.

Hi,

we ran into the same issue after upgrading a dockered Confluence Server from 8.3.2 to 8.3.3 due to CVE-2023-22515.

As the author of the question describes, we receive the message

Unable to find resource '/template/simple/textarea.vm'

when we try to start Confluence Server after the upgrade.

Any help or solution would be appreciated!
