Migrating confluence from the cloud to standalone

Hi we have setup Confluence standalone (5.6) and would like to migrate content from our cloud instance of Confluence, the problem is that the standalone version has already been configured including setting up the license and users have already started to create content.

We tried to setup a test confluence environment and when we tried to import the backup generated by the Cloud version of confluence it failed and made the instance unusable.

After going through this https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Migrating+from+Confluence+Cloud+to+Confluence+Server we realized that in order to migrate confluence from the cloud we will need to set up a confluence on demand version; however, we are not sure what do now regarding:

A. Our existing confluence license that has already been applied to our standalone instance.

B. The existing content in our standalone instance.

If we set up an on demand instance, will we be able to reuse our existing license and import both the cloud instance content AND the content in our existing standalone version?.

In addition to what Alex mentioned, the current version of Confluence Cloud cannot be imported into Confluence 5.6 and below. One option would be to install Confluence 5.7, import the full site from Confluence Cloud, and use the Space export/import functionality to add content from the 5.6 instance.

Hello Roger.

Importing the full site XML backup from your Cloud instance will wipe the current settings and content. You can try to do it as suggested by Nic, but please have into consideration that you will need to run the same version in your server which was running in Cloud. You can download the cloud version in this link.

Sorry, this makes no sense:

That would mean you are migrating from Confluence Cloud, to another Confluence Cloud and then on to Confluence Server.  Because On Demand and Cloud are the same thing, Cloud is just the new name.

You'll just have the same problem when you jump the types over.

What you need to do is:

1.  Take the export from Cloud
2. Import it into a development/test Server version locally (Your Server licence entitles you to development licences for exactly this sort of thing)
3. Export the space(s) you need from there
4. Import the spaces on your production server

In fact, you might not need to do that either - you could export the spaces directly from Cloud and import them on your Production server
