Migrating confluence to another server with only XML and attachment backup

Huy L. April 16, 2018

I moved Confluence to another server as follows:

1- Made an XML backup (no attachment)

2- Made a backup of /var/atlassian/application-data/confluence/attachments --> this might cause the problem below since I only backup attachments folder, not the whole home folder

3- Installed new server

4- Copied this attachments backup to exact same folder

5- Performed Restore XML backup during installation via web interface during installation

Confluence shows all text properly, but all attachments did not show up (images, Gliffy addons, pdf...).

The old server was crashed and crushed. I could not backup the whole old home folder again.

How can we get the attachments to show up?

Thank you for your support.

Dear Shannon,

Thanks for your feedback. I discovered that I missed one basic important step: after copying the old attachments to new server, I forgot to assign the [confluence user] right to the folder, recursively.

After doing that, everything is fine.

Hi Nhat,

I would have restored the XML backup first and then moved the attachments over, and THEN ran a full re-index and flush the cache. Can you try that again and let us know if you have any progress?

Please also confirm your Confluence version.

Regards,

Shannon
