We are on version 3.4 and it's running on a windows 2003 server and the DB is Postgre.
I want to move this to a new windows 2008 server with a SQL Server DB.
Where do I start? Is there a migration and upgrade path?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks!
Hi Mark,
How big is your instance? Can you still get an XML backup? I only ask because once Confluence passes a certain size, the resources required to take an XML backup are often too much for the server & it fails. if you do get out of memory errors when doing an XML backup, you could change the JVM parameters to give you the maximum amount of memory just for the export.
Once you have thet you can then do an XML import of the new instance.
If that still isn't an option then you could do it in stages. Move the application tier to SQL server 2008, leaving the DB on Postgres. Then talk to your DBAs and do a DB to DB transfer.
Either way, I would raise a query with Atlassian Support to make sure you're covered.
Some more redaing for you:

If you are moving to 64-bit, watch out for the problem with Confluence as a windows service

Thanks, will take a look and have also raised a support request with Atlassian!

Hi Mark,
Take a look at http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Migrating+Confluence+Between+Servers and
http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONF34/Migrating+Confluence+Between+Servers for details of how to move Confluence to a new server.
Hope that helps?
Andrew.
