I was in the middle of entering meeting notes into a page when I got a popup saying that I could convert the page to the new format. I selected yes, and the new page lost everything I was typing.
Is there a way to get back to my draft to recover my work?
Why in the world would this pop up show in Edit mode if it couldn't convert new, unpublished content?! And not even warn the user that it would deep 6 their work?!
To clarify, I am very familiar with the drafts feature, how to view drafts I have been working on, and how to view and use the page history.
Confluence either did not autosave my work, or it overwrote what it did autosave, or it isn't showing the autosaved work in the drafts history. In all cases, the changes I was in the middle of making when I selected the option I was presented to convert to the new page format are not available to me.
The appearance to me is that the conversion code converted the last published version instead of the draft I was working on and then published the converted page, effectively erasing my work and any saved draft of it.
What I would have liked to have happened is this:
You can infer that in my opinion the user interface fell short in that it didn't warn me that my current open work would be lost by doing the conversion, and didn't offer me a chance to back out of the conversion process for that reason.
I realize that I am ultimately the cause of my lost work because of the choices that I made and the assumptions under which I made them. I was 100% responsible for this.
That said, I believe that "error proneness" is an attribute of a system architecture that is important to consider in the design of a system; this current implementation of the conversion feature is highly error-prone, in my opinion. I believe this will lead to the system not performing as many users expect, and not deliver the results as well as a less error-prone system.

To do that, we will need to get a look at your Confluence site's logs. Could you please raise a ticket with our Cloud Support team? If you are not the site admin, you will need to report this issue first to your site admin, who can then raise the ticket with us in support.

Confluence autosaves as you go, so this creates a draft – an unpublished page or blog post that you can get back to at any time by heading to Your work > Drafts from your sidebar.
