Passing Metadata from children pages to parent

How can I achieve this?

For example: Extracting individual date information used in children pages to use it in the report of a parent or even unrelated page?

How about using Metadata Macro and Detail Summary Macro? Perhaps it would help. Cheers.

We are using Confluence 4.2 but this macros seem not to be available. I thought they belong to standard installation.
