Programmatically getting plugin information

I have a piece of code that is used to build multiple plugins. Instead of hardcoding the plugin information, I'd like to access it from within the code.

How is that done?

I've seen that but I would need to know the exact plugin key in order to get information about the plugin which doesn't work for me.

The code should be unaware of the plugin key.
