×We have a page with a Public Link, but when new sub-pages are created under that page, they inherit the restrictions that apply to the rest of the Space.
How do we make these sub-pages also available as Public Link pages – without making changes to the overall Space permissions?
In other words we want a series of linked pages to be accessible to those who we provide the link to the initial page.
Public links are created as isolated links - so even if you created public links for all child pages, users will not be able to see the structure.
A very clunky workaround would be to create a new public page with sctructured link map listing all other public pages. Which sounds like a nightmare to create and update.
You can make the space public (allow anonymous access) but based on what you wrote, you don't wanna do that. However, you can create a dedicated space to share the content, there are all sort of apps that can do that for you (more on that in my article on space sync and there's also Copy Page Tree app)
Alternatively, you can use an app that creates a static website from your selected Confluence content without the need for an anonymous space - see my answer in this Community thread.
Hey there @MerrillO DA-Admin ,
The behavior you noticed is very much intentional and in place to prevent sharing other pages accidentally.
This is mentioned in Share content externally with public links :
Public links don’t share branches of the content tree
Each public link corresponds to one content item only. If you turn on and share a public link for a content item that has any child items, the public link will only reveal the parent item, not any of the child items. To share the child items too, you’ll need to turn on their public links and share each of them individually.
Page contents are also limited when viewed as Public Links as mentioned in How secure are public links? :
On public pages and live docs
Public visitors can only view the following macros:
All other macros are not viewable in the view-only version of the content.
Hope this helps! =]
