Children pages and reporting tool

PatrickKoc May 11, 2020

Hi

I am new to confluence but have some programming skills. I was asked at work to create a reporting tool. Could you please advise how to proceed. I checked a lot of pages but most of them requires some products to be bought like metadata or other stuff

What I need is a solution to below problem

There is a list of companies all with same types of information I want each company to have their own page and on top of that I want 2 separate pages

One to display all relevant data from each company page

Two a tool that will allow common user to filter out needed information from page One.

  1. I am a space admin but not able to buy 3rd party resolutions. Please help

Hi @PatrickKoc

The first case is easily solved with the help of standard Confluence macros: Page Properties and Page Properties Report macros.

But the second case about filtration is a tricky one and there are no any "out-of-the-box" tools to suggest.

So, I can recommend you to try out the Table Filter and Charts for Confluence app. It allows you to apply different types of filters and find whatever you need effectively.

Besides you will be able to make pivots, perform calculations in your tables, import tables from CSV and visualize your information. It is similar to Excel functionality - I think that all your co-workers will get their own benefits from this app.

Thank you Katerina for tip with page properties that helped a lot but during page report I found an issue. I assume this is due to having to much data but my records display twice each showing data for different table parts. But I guess I can live with that reducing the number of information being sent to report .

However when it goes to reporting filter is not enough . Let's say I have 100 companies and each has 30 details/info . Sometimes I need to generate only 3 types of info but using filter for all data.

When I export I still export all information

Furthermore I need to resolution for common employees who are not familiar with setting up pivots etc

Example

Generate report with business email addresses and notification email addresses for companies located in England which are marked as active.

I have all data in page properties.

Here I've tried to recreate your situation. The first picture is something similar to the mini-tables for your Page Properties macros:

Table for Page Properties Macro.pngThe second screenshot stands for the result table from the Page Properties Report macro:

Table after Page Properties Report Macro.pngNow, as I understand, you want to show only several columns (not the whole table!) for the country UK and active status.

Let's show, for example, Business e-mail, Notification e-mail, Country, Status and hide Title, Number of Employees.

Put your Page Properties Report macro in the Table Filter macro and choose the required filters (Country and Status for our example):

Table Filter Settings 1.pngThen check the option to hide columns:

Table Filter Settings 2.pngNow go to the Filtration tab and set your filters: Country = UK, Status = Active. Also choose additional columns that you don't want to show at all:

Table Filter Settings 3.pngNow hide control filtration panel not to confuse regular users and preview the result:

The Table Filter and Charts for Confluence app allows you to perform plenty of different tasks for various use cases. So, I suggest you to try out a demo lesson to learn about its main features by practice.

And I was also a little bit confused that you have some issues with the Page Properties report macro: 100 companies and 30 parameters give 300 cells and it's medium-sized table, so it should work fine. Maybe you need to check your settings or try to troubleshoot you issue with your Confluence administrator (he or she may create support ticket for Atlassian).

By the way, the Table Filter and Charts app performs well with big tables (12000 rows and even more).

Thank you very much for the above .

You are Great!

But this still is too difficult for common user to set up all this information to download the report. User's gonna need different columns in different cases.

I will still be looking for some easier way.

If you need "filtration on the fly" (different combinations of filters and columns) for regular users, you can just leave access to the filtration panel and you don't need to set any predefined filters.

Here is an example of your page in the View mode:

Filter for Employees.png

Your users will be also able to export the filtered table in CSV, PDF and Word.

If you come up with an easier solution, please share your experience in this thread.
