Update from CONFCLOUD-65695 Bring back the "what's changed" comment box:
Thanks for all the feedback on this ticket. Given the amount of requests we've started to explore what a potential quick win may look like to re-introduce this. That being said, we still can't guarantee a time frame for this - we will make sure to update this ticket as we know more on our end.
In the meantime, if you have the legacy template available - which most of you should have - you can keep using that to create new pages and still keep using this feature. If you don't have that template, you can reach out to support and we'll be happy to enable it for you.
Thanks,
Avinoam
Hi @Riju Jacob ,
Confluence does not allow you to view or add comments while you are editing a page; this is expected behavior.
There is an enhancement request for it, though. You can review and vote for it here: CONFCLOUD-36956
Hope this helps,

Thank you Scott for the quick response.
My question was little different. I was taking about placing a comment while publishing a page. existing pages, while publishing a page, we can enter a comment that will get displayed in page history page. But with 'new editing experience' page, am not able to find the facility to enter my comment while publishing the page.

Hmmm...thanks for the clarification. I'll test it out.

The roadmap for the new editor in Cloud says that:
We removed this feature because it had almost no usage, but added significant visual clutter and complexity to Confluence.
Not saying I agree with the idea that just because something has low usage it should be removed, but that appears to be the rational behind it.

Thanks James for the response. I think I will revert to older templates than using the new experience editor.

Just to add a point, if we go to page history page, still we have comment column. If the feature is removed, i think this comment column also has to be removed, otherwise we need to treat as defect.

It might be worth asking that in the new editor discussion?

As a software developer, I have become accustomed to adding comments when I check code into the repository. Many teams REQUIRE a comment. Without a comment, there's no way to know why the change was made.
Even if the comment is not used often in the Atlassian Wiki (called Confluence), it sure would be nice to allow an option of entering a comment for those of us who want useful history listings.

You're right...It's gone.
There is an open suggestion for this one too, you can review it and vote for it here: CONFCLOUD-65695
