Companion app downloads an html page instead of my attachment

I'm trying to use the Companion app to edit an Excel (xlsx) file.  I click the link to my attachment; the preview loads ok; and the Edit-With menu shows Edit with Excel.

However when I click the Edit with Excel link, an HTML page is downloaded instead of my attachment.  The Companion app launches Excel, but Excel balks at the unexpected file content.

I tracked the downloaded file to my .atlassian.companion folder to view the file content.  The HTML appears to be HTML for the Confluence login page.

Any suggestions?

So it turns out that this is a bug when using Confluence with Crowd for SSO.

Update: The bug has been patched with Confluence 6.12.2.
