ConfiForms: Version field does not work with inline edit?

Jonathan Vorndamme May 23, 2023

The version field seems to not work with direct inline edits (e.g. from CardView) at all. If I use edit controls rendered as inline, the first save gets rejected with an error, but a second click on save overwrites the new version. Can you confirm this behavior and is it intended?

Hi @Jonathan Vorndamme

That is somewhat by design

If you want to have a full versionable edit then consider switching away from inline edits

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. So I guess that means it is not intended behavior but hard to fix due to the overall design? So if it is not going to be fixed anytime soon, I think it should be mentioned in the documentation that the versioning only works for non-inline edits, what do you think?

We can mention that in documentation, if that helps.

But indeed, the individual field value edits go around the version check (as this is only checked when the whole record is edited - either in inline or using the dialog mode (for partial or complete form))

Thanks for the clarification. Yes documenting it would be good, I think. I think this is a really important feature as it enables a lot of use cases (it enables a lot more flexibility and increased process speed in request - approval scenarios), so it would be very nice if fixing this for inline edits makes it into the agenda of the developers though.

Best
