Confluence for non-software development / scientific knowledge management?

Dear community,

I am a chemist and we are developing materials for the hydrogen economy. I am setting up our knowledge management and I am considering Confluence as a tool for that. 

I asked myself if it is quite specialized to developing software and less about managing information from scientific literature and results from the lab?

What do you think? Any chemists / natural scientists out there?

I think that Confluence is excellent product for all kind of teams and companies(not just for development teams). It is universal tool, that you can configure for your team's needs.

Also it is easier to start from the templates.
