I have Jira and Confluence running on the same server. I had to restore my Confluence instance, and thus do the backend magics to get in with the recover admin user. When I attempt to connect Confluence to the User Directory of my Jira instance I get:
The following URL does not specify a valid Crowd User Management REST service: http://jira.domain.com/rest/usermanagement/1/search?entity-type=user&start-index=0&max-results=1&expand=user
If I copy/paste that URL into a new tab I am given the user/pass prompt, and I can log in using Application Name and Password that I have specified.
I am using Apache to proxy the default Jira/Confluence ports over SSL, and alone that is working.
When I use the URL to test the userDir connection, it is redirected properly.
I have this same setup in production, but that server isn't experiencing any issues. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Hi Michael,
Could you have a look at the following article and see if the suggestions there help resolve your issue?
Regards,
Shannon
I've looked at that for a resolution, but it has not helped me yet.
The base URL is correct, though if I specify https://... I get:
org.apache.http.NoHttpResponseException: jira.domain.com:443 failed to respond
Specifying the default port for Jira produces the same error message that the URL does not specify a valid Crowd User Management Rest service.
I don't have any environment variables configured.
I can authenticate with the REST page.
crowd.atlassian.com is not a configurable option in logging.

I just updated Confluence to 6.11.2 and Jira to 7.11.2. I restored my custom configs, and was able to connect to the Jira User Database. Don't know what changes made this possible, but at least I can use this environment again.

Thank you for confirming, Michael. Can you confirm that everything is now working as expected?

I can confirm that everything is now functioning, though I shouldn't have needed to update the software in order to restore functionality. Thank you for following up though.

Michael,
No worries! I'm assuming the update corrected whichever corrupted setting that caused the issue, so this may be the reason why it's currently working.

I am encountering the same problem and am wondering what settings I should examine to get this working. I followed the troubleshooting instructions in the link you provided with no luck. Thank you for any help.

I have found that it can be a smoother process to connect to the Jira database after setting up Confluence. Give that a shot, and make sure you force a synchronization after establishing a connection to the user DB.

I am not sure what you mean by connecting to JIRA after setting up Confluence. My JIRA and Confluence have both been setup for several months. I am only recently trying to connect Confluence to the JIRA User Directory. When I try to connect Confluence using the 'Test Settings' Confluence reports the REST error and does not give me the option to save/establish the connection. I have JIRA/Service Desk and Confluence running on two separate servers. When I attempt to connect Confluence to the User Directory of my JIRA instance I get the REST error you mentioned. If I copy/paste the URL into a new tab I am given the username/password prompt. When I log in using the Application Name and Password that I have specified I get a 403 error.

I have this same setup in DEV(JIRA and Confluence on separate servers), but that setup is connecting correctly. I tested connecting the PROD Confluence to the DEV JIRA and the setup test was successful. This indicates to me that the problem is in some setting in my PROD JIRA. I am wondering what settings I should examine to get this working? I have tried the troubleshooting instructions in the following link with no luck. Thank you for any help.
