Deleted Space

Ellen Miller April 15, 2020

I deleted a Space in Confluence and need to recover it. Is this possible?

Thank you!

Okay. The when I deleted the space it never "finished". It said it was at like 75% of deleting.... So I am not wondering if it is still able to be retrieved.

Hey Ellen,
In this case, I recommend you to raise a ticket to our Confluence Cloud Support on Atlassian Support > Contact Support button, on the bottom of the page, so our team could have a deeper investigation and analyze your logs.

Hi @Ellen_Miller

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

If you're a space admin you can restore deleted pages back into a space.

To restore a deleted page:

  1. Go to the space and choose Space Settings

  2. Click on Content Tools and choose Trash

  3. Choose Restore next to the page you wish to restore

Now you should be able to restore your page :)

Please let me know how this goes. If you run into any trouble or have questions along the way, we’re happy to help!

Kind Regards,

Thanks, Victoria. The problem is the Space that held these pages was deleted. I deleted the space because it was empty. Come to find out there were pages in the Space that were "restricted/private" and therefore they did not show up on my view of the Space. I thought that the Space was empty and deleted. Now I have people who are trying to access pages that I couldn't see and they are saying "restricted" for them. Does that make sense?

Oh, I'm sorry @Ellen Miller. I misunderstood what you asked for.

Yes, it makes sense. But, as per our documentation, unfortunately, there's no easy way to restore a deleted space. For that, we recommend asking your Confluence Administrator to restore the most recent site backup so that you can retrieve the deleted space from there.

Hey Victoria,

Is it true this isn't possible to do for Cloud?  From the documentation for Cloud backups, it says these are taken every 24 hours, but only to be used for application recovery and not data loss (and it looks like these are only accessible by Atlassian?).  Just hoping you can clarify.  We can make a new Cloud Backup, but I don't think that will help in this case.

Thanks!

Hey Daniel,

Yes, it's true. As Data storage FAQ, Atlassian cloud sites don’t support the use of backup data to roll back changes. Our backups are for internal use and they're not utilized for "accidental deletion" restores. However, I recommend you to raise a ticket to our Confluence Cloud Support on Atlassian Support > Contact Support button, on the bottom of the page, for validations and more information about your case.
