We are manually upgrading confluence production from 6.2.0 to 7.7.3 and got the below error when wizard runs for deleting files in confluence installation directory. We do not have any files open in the background but still getting this error. Can you advise please.
" Error while attempting to remove the previous installation directory. Some file may be in use Please close all related programs and try again"
Your existing Confluence service is still running. You need to stop it before running the upgrade.
Thanks for the response. Service automatically stopped during upgrade. It was not running when I got the error. @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-

Then there must be something else holding the files open. Annoyingly, Windows is bad at this sort of thing and probably won't tell you what it is
It might still be the service - sometimes they do not stop properly, but remain running. Check the task manager to see if any java processes are running. Otherwise you'll need to check for filing programs or anti-virus holding the directories open

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- thank a lot, it did actually work and I didn't get this error but got a new error as below. Any idea to fix it?
"com.install4j.runtime.beans.actions.files.CreateZipFileAction failed

Your latest error suggests that you have not been able to stop whatever is locking your files and directories open while it tries to upgrade.
If I were trying to do this, I would be looking to whatever Windows is holding open and why, so I could stop it from locking out the upgrade. But I have not suffered working with Windows for a long time, so I can't tell you what to look at in any detail - not a lot beyond "you need to work out what is holding the files open"
