How can I add announcements to the Home page

I have stumbled across the "Announcement" feature on the Confluence home page. Currently there is only one message (that we configured through the System Template). 

I am wondering how we could possibly add more announcements to the users feed...

I couldn't find any info whatsoever. My only guess is, that the text from announcement banners (premium feature) is posted there as well? Does that replace the original text or does it show a timeline? Has anyone used that feature??

Hi Laurie,
I understand how the banners work. But do the messages get pushed to the Announcement section in the personal feeds also?
