How do I change the @ user mention to display first name then surname globally?

I would like to change our entire Confluence instance to display first name, surname globally when you use the @ user mention feature.

I know you can do it manually each time you use the @ function, but I'd like to expand that functionality for all users.

Thanks.
Kathryn.

Hi @Kathryn Reddie

You can default how the user's name appears.

If you manage users locally on your Jira / Confluence instance, you could update the users' names to be "name, surname" and this will default how they show in @ mentions.

If you are managing your users by LDAP or similar, this answer might be of use, which shows an issue and possible resolutions to it.

I would also like to change the display of the user name in @ function.

We're using Cloud and I can't find any option how to change it manually as @Kathryn Reddie writes. Neither can I find the option to default how the user's name appears, @Ste Wright

Is it only Server functionality?

Hi @Andrea Striesova

It depends if you've verified a domain or not.

You can see on ID-6415 a full explanation of where identification changes to Cloud modified what an Admin can or cannot do to a user's account.

In summary:

  • Users own their own accounts in Cloud
  • Site Admins cannot modify a user's account - eg. their name or avatar unless...
  • You've claimed a specific domain and manage all the accounts under that email domain

A user can modify their own name. As a user:

  1. In Jira, go to the top-right corner and press the avatar icon
  2. Select Account Settings from the drop-down menu
  3. In About You, modify the Full Name

If you're an Administrator and have not claimed the domain, you can suggest modifications a user is free to accept or ignore:

  1. In Jira, go to Settings > User Management
  2. Select a user
  3. In the top-right in the user information box, select Suggest Changes
  4. Suggest a name change and press Submit

Finally, for more on Organizations and verified domains, see this page which has lots of useful information :)
