I am presently part of an existing space "Wendell Website Committee", but whenever I create a space it seems that it is a "child" (?) space of the "Wendell Website Committee" space (not sure if "child" is the correct term -- it is all under https://wendell-website-committee.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces). I want to create a *completely* independent space that is not in anyway connected to the "Wendell Website Committee" -- it is for an org that is completely separate from the "Wendell Website Committee" and has no connection to the "Wendell Website Committee". How can I do that? Is that even possible? I even tried logging in with a different E-Mail address and I ended up with at a place that tried to connect the new account to the "Wendell Website Committee". What is going on here? Is there no way around this?
I am totally confused...
Hi @Robert Heller,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
You can set up a new instance if you go to https://www.atlassian.com/try and sign up for a new Confluence instance.
This is very non-intuitive... :-( Why isn't there a link to this anywhere on my account page? I think there should be.

@Robert Heller there are no instructions since what you are looking to do is create a new instance, rather than a space in your current instance.

I found things very confusing and felt "trapped" with no visible exit. Almost every other site like this (eg github, sourceforge, AWS, etc.) has some toplevel home page where one can create a new fresh "instance" of whatever, that is linked to from someplace like the account page. What I found weird was that from my base account page there was no way to get off the Confluence instance I was in and there was no "exit" link or "create new instance" link or anything like that. And in fact that my base account page seemed to be on the Website Committee Confluence instance which I found strange and very confusing. That is an important, but *missing* navigational link -- *I* would consider it a *major* bug in the Atlassian website. And even the fact that I needed to create a new Confluence instance was not clear anywhere -- I just ended up going in circles and was clueless about how to "escape". It was more than a little freaky.
