Michelle Martineau June 28, 2023

I need help configuring my site to be read only to the public while still allowing edits from my team. I created a group of authorized users and gave them permissions but for some reason annon users can still edit and create pages. is there a way to prevent annon users from doing anything but viewing the content?

To configure your Confluence site to be read-only for anonymous users while allowing edits from your team, you'll need to adjust the permissions settings. Here's a step-by-step guide to achieving this:

Log in to your Confluence site with administrative privileges.

Navigate to the space where you want to configure the permissions.

Click on the "Space Tools" menu located in the lower-left corner and select "Permissions."

In the Permissions page, you'll see a list of different groups and their associated permissions. Find the group that represents anonymous users (typically called "Anonymous" or "Anyone"), and click on the "Edit Permissions" link next to it.

In the "Edit Permissions" page, you should see a list of available permissions for anonymous users. Make sure that the following permissions are unchecked (disabled):

  • Create Page
  • Edit Page
  • Add Comment
  • Add Blog Post
  • Add Attachment

Once you have unchecked the relevant permissions, click on the "Save All" button to apply the changes.

Now, you need to ensure that your authorized user group has the necessary permissions to edit and create pages. Go back to the "Permissions" page.

Locate the group representing your authorized users and click on the "Edit Permissions" link next to it.

In the "Edit Permissions" page for your authorized user group, ensure that the following permissions are checked (enabled):

  • Create Page
  • Edit Page
  • Add Comment
  • Add Blog Post
  • Add Attachment

Click on the "Save All" button to save the changes.

With these steps, you should have successfully restricted anonymous users from editing and creating pages while allowing your authorized users to have the necessary permissions. Make sure to test the configuration by logging out or using a different browser session to confirm that anonymous users can only view the content.
