How to create a new Confluence page template based on an existing Blueprint

Hi,

We would like to create a new documentation page template.  We do not want to create a page template from scratch.  We would like to create this new page template based on the already existing Requirements blueprint.

1>> Is that possible?

2>> If so, how can that be done?

Please explain the steps.

Hi @Ghassan Hariz!  As George mentioned, you can edit an existing blueprint if you have admin permissions in the space you want to modify it in, or the whole Confluence site. If you have admin permissions, you go to settings > content tools > and simply click edit next to the Requirements template you want to edit.

Hi @Kesha Thill we do not want to edit an existing blueprint - we would like to create a NEW PAGE based on the blueprint (the Requirements blueprint).  Hence, we do not want to start the page from scratch.  Can I specify a blueprint as the starting point for a new page template?  Thanks.

Yes Ghassan you can do this using the existing Blueprints that are currently available in the Atlassian Team Playbook. Here are a few examples:

• Create a page using the DACI Decision blueprint
• Create a page using the "How To" article format
• Create a page using the Retrospective blueprint
• Create a page using the Product 
  Requirements blueprint
• Or you can just create a template in Content Tools and "Promote" it. Then using the eclipse ... icon next to the create function select the promoted template you just created and go from there.

Yes it is possible and actually quite easy. I have performed this task following these steps.

• Create the initial page as specified. Save in Confluence as a new page.
• Copy to template using "Create New Template" in Space Tools 
• Or you can always modify an already existing blueprint using the edit feature also found in Tools.
• You can find more blueprints for Confluence in the Atlassian Marketplace. Blueprints are managed using add-ons (also known as plugins).

Hi George, how is the step in the 2nd bullet point performed: "Copy to template using Create New Template".  We can create a new template easily.  However, can we specify a blueprint as the starting point for a new page template?  Thanks.

Yes you can specify a blueprint to a template conversion. 

• Select the specific blueprint
• Go to "Create from Template" located on your menu bar 
• There are a number of blueprints listed i.e. Health Monitor, Decision, file list etc.
• Fill in the required fields and then click create
• This will put you into edit mode
• Use the Page Layout button to organize content by adding page sections
• Once content is completed click publish
• This creates a page based of an already existing blueprint that you can modify during the page edit process
• Next step go to "Space Tools" >"Content Tools" 
• Click on "Create New Template"
• Name your template in "Template Title"
• Using the page layout button create as many sections equal to what is in your blueprint. (If you have these 2 sessions open at the same time you can toggle between both)
• Now go to your blueprint go to edit mode and with a copy and paste technique highlight the selected areas and perform a copy and paste into the template section.
• Copy and paste all relevant content from the blueprint into the template.
• Save template and promote into space. You know have a template based on a blueprint that has been modified to your specification.
