How to resolve page content rollback issues during editing?

During page editing, my content keeps rolling back to several steps earlier. This isn't simply going back in time - it's a very critical rollback phenomenon where content I was working on in the middle disappears, and recently written content gets merged with previously written content in unexpected ways. When rollbacks happen during typing, they're relatively easy to notice so that's manageable, but when working with copy and paste operations, I sometimes don't realize that content has disappeared, which is reason enough to stop using Confluence altogether. Is the support team aware of these issues?

Hey there @이상현 ,

There are no active or recent Incidents that could explain the behavior you are experiencing.

As this seems to be specific to your user (or maybe a group of users), opening a Support ticket would be the best next step as we'll need to take a closer look.

Hope this helps!  =]

Hi @이상현

I just wonder out loud... is there any chance that you (or someone else) have an editing session open somewhere else? Different browser, different computer, same browser but different window/session...

This would be typically indicated by a user thumbnail (at the top of the page).

Also, there are two ways how to approach editing a page

  • standard page Edit mode
  • live doc - this turns editing of the page into a 'google-docs-like' experience

What you're experiencing, can be, in theory, a mix-and-match situation of the factors above. A page forgote in the edit mode in a browser and converted to a live doc in a different browser session...

I'd start with investigating the above. Also, after you save the page, check the restrictions.

If nothing helps, I suggest the following:

  1. Copy the content of the page in the form that you want it to be.
  2. Create a new page and paste the content there.
  3. Delete/Rename the old page.
  4. Save the new page with the exact same page title (this would preserve incoming links).

  • This occurred when I was editing alone. However, while I can see other colleagues entering my page through user thumbnails, I wouldn't be able to see through thumbnails if I had two windows of the same page open on my own computer (desktop, laptop), right?
  • I have never created a 'live document' when creating new pages in my space. I always create just regular 'pages'.
  • Neither of these seems to apply to my situation.

It seems like the rollback happens when auto-save occurs right before my work action.

For example:

Input: "Apples are delicious." Result after rollback: "Apples"

In the case of "Apples are delicious.", it auto-saves at "Apples" and then the part I typed afterward, " are delicious.", disappears.

But I don't understand why this happens:

Input: "Apples are delicious." A moment later: "Applecious"

Of course, since my input language is Korean, it doesn't happen exactly like that, but you get the idea.

So in the normal edit mode, you can see where the other person is editing - the blue oblong highlight - even if it's you.

I'm actually editing where the cursor in the red oblong is.

THis is what live docs look like.

Hi @이상현 and welcome to the community!

That sounds really strange. Have you tried different browsers? Is this occuring during network outages? Are there unpublished changes when editing the page?

If the problem persists log a case to Atlassian support Atlassian Support

Best regards,
/Staffan

  • I am only using Chrome.
  • There are no issues with the company's network connection.
  • I have confirmed that auto-save is happening almost in real-time when editing pages.
