How to restore Confluence XML backup?

Hi,

I'm trying to restore XML backup on our development server (has SQL 2012) from our production server (using SQL 2014). I am using the admin page for the restore of the XML file backup (.zip) not working -- means didn't proceed even i click upload and restore button several times. If I extract and point to either entities.xml file and exportDescriptor.properties file, encountered issues, see individual results.entities_xml.JPGexportDescriptor.properties.JPGzipbackup.JPGXMLbackup.JPG

Hi @Christine Cagakit-Ingco,

the databases shouldn’t matter when you use an XML backup and restore. However, Confluence versions might. Which version is your production and development servers?

The XML restore functionality field accepts zip archives only with on the structure as on your last screenshot. Confluence will not "look into" the folders trying to search for entities.xm and exportDescriptor.properties.

  • Did you try to use another browser?
  • Any errors in the Confluence log when you see this error in the UI?

Hi Roman,

Thank you for your response and due to space limitation on C drive (installation path), I placed the XML backup to a different drive that causes the issue. Now the restoration is in progress however, it takes too long to restore for a 40GB zip back up file, the upload status is till on 1% since Friday.

Hi @Christine Cagakit-Ingco,

if the restore process is still stuck at 1%, it has most probably ran out of memory and won’t continue.

I would recommend monitoring garbage collection and available memory during the restore to see if the amount of allocated memory is a bottleneck.

I have terminated this approach Roman. It took too long for it to restore.

I have tried the DB backup and restore, I just need to update base URL. Not sure if Atlassian still recommending restore from XML but DB back up and restore is quite effective than XML restore.
