How to set a Column as a header for each row in Confluence tables with a screen reader

Charles Vanek February 7, 2022

On Confluence Cloud there isn't a screen reader accessible way to set a column as row headers.  How can one accomplish this?

The first row of a default confluence table does have the header active for WCAG compliance, but would like to set headers other than that default.

Hi @Charles Vanek , you are correct. The table options are currently not accessible to a screen reader nor a keyboard.

I've created a public issue which you should be able to subscribe to for updates: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-73544

Hi @Charles Vanek ,

The header column can be chosen instead of the header row in the menu under the table.

As far as I know, the table options are currently not accessible to a screen reader nor a keyboard.

I believe you’ve missed a key part of the question.  How do you do the action with a screen reader.  For example if a blind user is using JAWS, NVDA or VoiceOver.

Similarly your video without audio description is not WCAG compliant and therefore offers zero help to the question at hand.

I appreciate the attempt.

Indeed I understood that a screen reader is a kind of a tool to read data using HTML that you get from the Confluence page.

So, I've checked if the <th> tag appears after choosing the header row (it appears) and answered - a lot of Confluence users are really not familiar with a new Cloud editor and its options.

Let's wait for the help from other members then.
