Hello, I'm completely brand new to confluence and I wanted to design a organization chart for my team for visibility. There will be some text such as projects they're working on and their own personal description and a picture of themselves. What are some of the best macros (that work in legacy confluence) to use in order to have the cleanest, and nicest looking org chart. If you know of these macros, can you give me a step by step on how to use it as well to format it as well? I have also tried using panel, and while it works I want something that looks more aesthetically pleasing.

Hi Kashi! :)

First of all, welcome to the wonderful world of Confluence! Creating an org chart is such a great way to boost team visibility and alignment, and there are a few solid ways to do it.

If you're looking to include things like photos, project info, personal notes, branding, and more, draw.io's a perfect fit. Since it's native to Confluence, it gives you full control. You can add rich text, images, connectors, apply visual styles for consistency, and even start from a pre-made template if you wanna save yourself some time. My favorite part: Real-time collaboration, which is especially helpful if you're working with teammates on structure or updates.

if you'd like a walk through how to set it up based on your specific needs, I'd be happy to show you around your specific use case. Here's my Calendly in case you'd like to chat!

Looking forward to it.

Best,

MJ

A few months ago, I tried draw.io and Lucidchart, and Miro, all are good, but last week I found a tool called Creately, which is better according to my personal experience. I use it for my college work mostly.  @Namita Awasthi, you also should try. It will be a great fit for you for sure.

And here is the link: https://creately.com/

Following up on the answer of @MJ Valencia -drawio diagrams- … you already received a few tips on tools you may use for creating your org chart. If you go along with draw.io, please have a look at Create org charts with draw.io

One advantage you may have (in case this is what you are aiming for) with more sophisticated diagramming tools is that you can enhance the org chart, using e., custom shapes with images of the employees, etc.

Hello @Cassius French!

If you do decide to try out an app like Gliffy for this Org Chart task you have, I wanted to pass along this link to our YouTube Video for building org charts.  Like the other great options you have, we also have templates to help you build quickly.

Happy to help if I can!

Hi, @Cassius French

I’ve used tools like draw.io and Lucidchart before, which are solid, but I found Creately to be a bit more intuitive for org charts. It’s clean, easy to use, and lets you add photos, text, and extra details without much hassle: https://creately.com/lp/org-chart-software/

Might be worth checking out

Hope it helps!

Hi, @Cassius French! ✨

If you want to have a good visual overview of the organization, I'd go with Confluence Whiteboards. Atlassian even has a template for that: https://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/templates/org-chart

As you're using legacy Confluence (likely Confluence Server or Data Center, or Classic editor on Cloud), here are some better macro options and layout tips to build a clean, visually appealing org chart - with team member images, personal descriptions, and project info:

  1. User profile macro - best for displaying profile photo, name, and contact info. Not customizable for projects and descriptions.
  2. Combination of Section, Column, Panel, Image and Table macros for structure and content. This gives you full control of formatting. For example, use sections to split page into rows, columns to organize side-by-side. Add panels for each person, images for profile pictures and tables for structured info (name, role, team, projects, etc).
  3. Apps like draw.io, Lucidchart, Gliffy Diagrams - these allow visual drag-and-drop org charts with pictures, labels, and hierarchy.

Hope this gives you some ideas! ☀️
