I went to Edit mode, selected my image, and went to Properties. I entered a description and alt text, but when I publish it doesn't display. The alt text displays on hover. I want a caption/title below the image. How do I do this??? Is there a different feature to do this???
when in edit mode, on any confluence page, if you click the image there is a spot under the image to put text. See where it says " Add a Caption"
Is this what you are looking for?
I added a caption and exported to be sure and it does show up.

yes you are on data center based on that photo. I am a cloud admin so I dont know much about Data center. I would say change your tags to data center, I know when I am looking for some questions to answer I scroll through looking for the cloud tag, and they probably do the same for the data center tag.
I hope you find the help you are looking for :)

@SophM Your question has Cloud tags, but are you using Data Center or Server instead? In my Cloud site, I see the image toolbar and features displayed in the screenshot that @Guess, Brandi N. included, not with the Image Properties shown in your screenshot.

This is all I see when I'm in Edit mode and I select my image. Properties is my only option. There is no Add a caption under the image.. See my above screenshot that shows in Properties to Add a Caption, but it doesn't display other than alt text on hover. Could I have a different version? Is there a manual way to add it in the source editor?

@SophM If the URL for your Confluence site uses the format <name>.atlassian.net, then you are on Cloud.
Based on the screenshot in the Customize your image file display section on this page (https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/display-files-and-images-245827130.html ), it looks like you are using Confluence Data Center. This page may help you understand this feature.
I also add the data center tag to your post. You may want to remove the cloud tags to avoid confusion.
